WHO WE ARE

The Transition Area Alliance was formed in 2016 and is composed of concerned residents of Loudoun County, supported by organizations including the Aldie Heritage Association, Aldie Citizens Association, League of Women Voters of Loudoun County, Loudoun Residents for Reasonable Growth, and Piedmont Environmental Council.

Loudoun County is a great place to live. But traffic, taxes, and disappearing open space will make it less so. As a county, we have not matched our infrastructure to the pace of new residential building, nor developed a master plan for trails, parks and contiguous open spaces.. This alliance is one group of many that is attempting to bring awareness and action to reverse this trend, and specifically to preserve the open space in this area.

The Transition Policy Area is an area generally west of Ashburn, Broadlands, Brambleton and Arcola,  and east of Watson Rd. It also includes the area of the county south of Stone Ridge and South Riding. It was designed to be low-density, and to provide a buffer between the high-density suburban areas to the east and north; and rural areas to the west. It includes the communities of Red Cedar, Goose Creek Bend, Martin's Chase, Evergreen Hamlet, Lenah Run, Lenah Mill, Lenah Woods, Nicholson Farm, The Meadows, The Marches, Kirkpatrick Farms, Seven Hills, Marbury, Dawson's Corner, Willowsford, Aldie Estates, Woodlands, Westbury Glen, Sunberry, Tanglewood, McIntosh Farms, and others. With few exceptions, these communities were able to build in this area by committing large tracts of land to open space, not to be developed. This is an area rich in natural habitat and history, with woods and streams which need to be preserved for all of Loudoun's residents.

Now the county's comprehensive plan is up for review, and that open space is under challenge, further aggravating the issues we now face. Our mission is to educate residents about this process and to enlist support so that county leaders do not permit further build-out of areas not currently permitted,
